Ellsbury hits two homers, scores winning run in another comeback win for Red Sox

Jacoby Ellsbury continued his recent hot streak, and extended his teams to six games, with two homers and scoring the game winning run in yet another come from behind win for the Red Sox, this time over the Los Angeles Angels, 7-6. He led off the bottom half of the first inning with a homer and added his second in the sixth inning, giving him 3 on the year. A big win for the Sox without their ace on the mound, Josh Beckett, who was scratched prior to game-time with a stiff neck. David Pauley, a recent call-up took his place and allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Pauley couldn’t hold the 1-0 lead that Ellsbury had given him, allowing 5 runs in a two inning span to give the Los Angeles a 5-1 advantage. Julio Lugo started the rally for Boston, reaching on a infield single in the 4th inning, scoring J.D. Drew, who had reached on a single of his own.  After Dustin Pedroia hit one of his three doubles in the game to start off the 5th inning, David Ortiz hit a rbi single to dwindle the Angels lead to 5-3. Manny Ramirez then lined out to deep right field on a spectacular catch by Vladimir Guerrero. Kevin Youkilis came to bat as the tying run, as he did just that, tying the game with a homer over the green monster in left field, 5-5. After Julian Tavarez pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning, Ellsbury displayed his heroics once more, hitting a go-ahead home run to put Boston up 6-5. The Angels wouldn’t go away quietly as Casey Kotchman, a good young hitter himself, hit a solo-homer to start the eighth off of Hideki Okajima. The Red Sox stormed right back in the bottom of the inning against reliever Scott Shields. With one out, Jacoby Ellsbury used his blazing speed to beat out a bunt for a single. Dustin Pedroia followed with his 3rd double of the contest, down the left field line driving in Jacoby for the winning run. Jonathan Papelbon notched his 8th save, striking out Gary Matthews Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero in the process.
