johan Santana

I am a avid Red Sox fan who has taken a lot of interest in the inquiries of Johan Santana, perhaps the best pitcher in baseball. Being from the great northwest I had the ability of following the now famous Jacoby Ellsbury, a product of the Oregon State Beavers. His name has come up in many trade discussions concerning Santana. I am befuddled by the reasoning of why the Red Sox would even think about trading this star on the rise. The spark that he gave the Red Sox when he first came up to the big leagues was remarkable. There is so much money thrown around in baseball, especially towards the cause of the Yankees and Red Sox, that it is astounding that higher market teams are allowed to be able to go after players that other teams can’t afford, gaining a advantage that can ruin the sport of baseball altogether. Baseball is still the best game ever. Thought it has almost gotten to the point where only big market clubs are going to be the only teams competing for World Championships. This is why the Red Sox should behave like other teams such as the lower market clubs and let their players develop for their team, not to just discard their farm system so they can get the top player on the market. All of these teams that are involved in this off season’s trading season should turn the other way when the thought of trading their top prospects for short term players arise.
